FAQs: FAQ

WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR/BRING TO MY FIRST LESSON?

All you'll need for your first lesson is long pants and either a sturdy pair of tennis or boots with a small heel. We provide tack, a helmet, and the horse; just bring yourself and a smile!

I'VE SCHEDULED A BARN TOUR/ARRIVED FOR MY FIRST LESSON, WHERE DO I GO? WHAT SHOULD I DO?

We're glad you made it here, go ahead and make your way into the barn. If you see any of our instructors, simply ask for whomever you're looking for. We'll be glad to meet you.

CAN I BRING TREATS FOR THE HORSES?

Carrots and apples are acceptable treats for our horses. However, please check with one of our loved instructors prior to feeding any of the horses these treats. NEVER give a horse any human food or any treats without permission from an HSS team member.

THIS IS MY FIRST LESSON, WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Our beginner students start with our intro lessons in which we focus on becoming comfortable and proficient in working around horses, brushing the horse, tacking the horse up correctly and safely and leading the horse. Beginner saddle time is taken slow and easy with a concentration on respect for the horse, balance and skilled guiding.

HOW DO I NEED TO PAY FOR LESSONS, BOARDING, SHOWS?

Unlike the past, we no longer offer online payments such as CashApp, PayPal, or Venmo. You can pay for any rendered services via cash or check. All checks should be made out to Michelle Stephenson.

DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE LESSONS IN A PACKAGE?

Nope! You can pay for lessons individually or prepay for a number of your choice. All we ask is that the lesson be paid for by the time of service.

ARE THERE ANY CANCELLATION OR LATE POLICIES?

Yes, if you need to cancel we ask for at least 24 hours notice. However, we understand this isn't always tangible, lessons cancelled within 6 hours of the scheduled time will receive a $20 cancellation fee. If you No-Show you will be due the ENTIRE lesson fee. Should you show up and forget payment, a $5 late fee will be incurred.

I'M CONSIDERING LEASING A HORSE, WHY MIGHT THIS BE BENEFICIAL?

Owning a horse is a huge commitment of time and money.  We think it's smart to lease a horse before you buy to make sure that you're ready for that commitment.  Leasing allows you to try the horsey lifestyle to see if it fits.

Leasing is a short-term commitment and far less expensive than owning a horse. You can ease into the demands of a horsekeeping schedule. You can take this time to learn about horse care and what would be involved in having a horse of your own.

If you are looking for a horse for your child, leasing allows parents to evaluate a child's commitment to riding and horse care. Ending a lease is easier and much less traumatic than having to sell a horse that you no longer want or can no longer keep.

DO YOU OFFER BOARDING SERVICES FOR NEW OR EXISTING CLIENTS?

Unfortunately at this time we are completely full and have developed an extensive wait list for this service. If we are ever able to offer boarding services again, we'll be sure to add it to our page.
